Simone Biles

 Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lz14 March 1997, [4]) is an American gymnast who is artistic. Biles tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals she won in American gymnastics, and is currently the ninth highest. Biles is considered by many to be the best gymnast of all time, having won 25 World Championship medals. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. Biles received gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. Biles also took home bronze medals in balance beam as well as floor, all-around, and vault. Biles was part of the United States team known as the "Final Five". But, Biles pulled out of most of the contest due to her difficulties with "the twisties" that is an intermittent loss of balance awareness in the air. Biles was awarded an Olympic silver medal as part of the US team, as well as the bronze medal on the balance beam. The judges praised the partial withdrawal she made, her determination and dedication to safety, mental and physical health. The athlete is also five-time World all-around champion (2013-15 and 2018-19) and five times World floor exercise champion (2013)-2015 and 2018-2019) and three times World balance beam champion (2014)-2015 and 2019) and two-time World vault champion (2018), and was part of the gold-winning American teams in all four World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2014 2015, 2014, 2018, 2018 and 2019). She also is three-time World silver medalist (2013 and 2014 on vault, and 2018-2019 on uneven bars, 2018-2019 on uneven) and three-time World bronze medalist (1915 on vault and balance beam in 2013 and 2018-2019 on balance beam).

Biles is the gymnast who has earned the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. Biles also beats the record set by Vitaly Scherbo of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24thplace and 25th with gold medals at Stuttgart's competition in 2019. Biles holds the record for having the highest number of all-around World titles (5). She's the sixth female to receive an individual all-around title during the Olympics and World Championships. Biles is the tenth and first American female gymnast to earn the World medal in every event. This feat was accomplished during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was the third of from four siblings. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14th 1997. The four children were all put in foster care. When Shanon's grandchildren were being cared for in foster homes, Ron Biles (Biles' maternal grandfather) and Nellie Cayetano Biles (his second wife) started to care for Shanon in Spring, Texas. They took in Simone and Adria Biles, her younger sister, in 2003. Ron's sister Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted the two oldest kids. Biles, through her adoptive mother, has Belizean citizenship and calls Belize as her second home. Biles as well as her family members are Catholic.
